Asia Pacific Network for People of African Descent (APN-PAD) is a novel transnational civil society network across Australia, China, Japan, Korea, the Philippines and Thailand. APN-PAD aims to promote and protect the human rights of people of African descent in the Asia Pacific through:* Raising public awareness about the presence of People of African Descent and the different issues concerning the fulfilment of their human rights.* Promoting or opposing changes to any matter established by law, policy or practice impacting People of African Descent.* Engaging local, national, regional, and international human rights institutions and stakeholders to advocate for the human rights of People of African Descent. *Consolidate and promote diversity, inclusion and equality with respect to minorities and People of African Descent . *Harmonized the power of civil societies of People of African Descent in the Asia Pacific Region to engage on transnational challenges experienced by People of African Descent.
Founded by the alumni of the United Nations Fellowship Programme for People of African Descent from the Asia Pacific region in 2023 to fill the need to harness the power of and build transnational network to empower People of African Descent in the Asia-Pacific region, bring visibility to the challenges and recognition to their contributions within mainstream societies in the region.
This organization was officially launched at the United Nations Regional Meeting for Asia Pacific on the International Decade for People of African Descent organize by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights held at the United Nations Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland in January 2024.
